Zeiger higher education efficiency bill passes House
Legislation to make Washington state's higher education system more efficient passed the House of Representatives on Monday, March 4.
In a unanimous vote, legislators approved House Bill 1736 sponsored by Rep. Hans Zeiger, R-Puyallup.
“This bill does three things. It reviews the reporting requirements of higher education institutions, allows the use of electronic signatures, and authorizes reciprocity agreements for online distance learning programs,” said Zeiger. “For the last couple years, members of both parties have been working on reforms to make our colleges and universities more flexible and effective in their missions.”
Zeiger also praised the collaborative effort of the stakeholder groups.
“The Legislature needs to keep working on efficiency legislation to bring down costs and ensure that taxpayers and tuition payers are getting as much for their money as possible,” said Zeiger.
The bill is now headed to the Senate for consideration.
