Mt. Rainier Lutheran high school student serves at the capitol

Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School sophomore Emily Darms paged in the state House of Representatives Jan. 29 through Feb. 3. She was sponsored by 25th District Rep. Hans Zeiger. Emily, 14, is the daughter of Debbie and Robert Darms of Tacoma.

“I was happy to have sponsored Emily's time at the Capitol. She is a delightful young lady,” said Zeiger, R-Puyallup. “The page program is a great way to introduce young Washingtonians to the legislative process.”

During her week in Olympia, Darms attended page school every day to better understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Darms wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing scholastic performance among teenagers.

As part of her page duties Emily navigated the many buildings on the Capitol campus and delivered messages and documents to legislators and staff.

Students between the ages of 14 and 16 who are interested in the page program must have parent permission, acceptable grades and a legislative sponsor. To learn more about the House Page Program, visit the Web site.
