Home school student serves as page in Legislature

Home-schooled 8th-grader Sydney Paulson paged in the state House of Representatives January 29 through February 3. She was sponsored by 25th District Rep. Hans Zeiger. Paulson, 14, is the daughter of Doug and Silvia Paulson of Puyallup.
“It was an honor to sponsor Sydney's time at the Capitol. She is a hardworking and intelligent young lady,” said Zeiger, R-Puyallup. “Her commitment to learning about our system of government is commendable.”
During her week in Olympia, Paulson attended page school every day to better understand the operations and actions of the Legislature. At the end of the week, Paulson wrote and promoted a mock bill addressing abortion and teen pregnancy.
Sydney also served an important role in the Legislature delivering documents to legislators and staff on the floor of the House and throughout the Capitol campus.
Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. To learn more about the page program, visit the Web site.
