Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The special legislative session is underway for the purpose of resolving our state's $2 billion budget shortfall. The week opened with thousands of protestors marching on the Capitol, but legislators spent most of the week in long meetings behind the scenes with little results. I am dismayed that a week into the special session, there is no progress to report from the budget negotiations.
Taxpayers are footing the bill for the Legislature to meet. We owe the public a leaner, more efficient, and less bureaucratic budget. We owe the public a budget that maintains our core public services: education, public safety, and services for vulnerable groups like children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
I invite you to visit Olympia if you have time in the next few weeks. It would be good to host you at the state Capitol and hear your perspective on the state budget. Thanks to all of you who have sent input so far.
Sincerely,

Hans Zeiger
