Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week in Olympia the House majority party finally unveiled its state operating budget proposal. My party, led by Rep. Gary Alexander, proposed an alternative budget solution. You can find the principles that guided our budget writers and comparisons of the two budgets here.
I plan to vote against the Democrat budget on the floor on Saturday. The Democrats' spending plan would preserve expensive and inefficient programs while making significant cuts to education and programs that help individuals with disabilities. It is also short on reform and relies on creative accounting. It is not sustainable.
Our alternative plan would prioritize education, public safety and the protection of our most vulnerable citizens. It would also offer real reforms and accountability to taxpayers.
Throughout the week, special interest groups have been at the Capitol with their signs, chants, and spirited protests. I appreciated the chance to interact with constituents who came to rally with their labor unions against the Democrat budget.
My favorite part of serving in the Legislature is meeting constituents from every walk of life and political persuasion. Last week, Rogers High School senior Justin Miller came to Olympia to job shadow me. The photo on the right is Justin and his grandparents Jim and Carolyn on the House floor with me.
Enjoy the Daffodil Festival this weekend! I am sorry that I cannot be there on account of our budget vote. It is a great honor to represent my beloved daffodil valley here in Olympia.
Sincerely,

Hans Zeiger
